If you'd like to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's pointed to. That way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the website which you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a CNAME record through our cloud website hosting plans is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in a couple of easy steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you a variety of opportunities - if you build a company website on our end, as an illustration, the employees can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site through a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You are going to be able to create, modify and delete CNAME records easily with any one of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for every domain name or subdomain you have added in your account. To create a new record, you simply have to pick the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type where it is going to be forwarded to, pick the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you will be ready. Even when you haven't used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is incredibly intuitive to use, so you will not have any difficulties. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to create a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain hosted on our revolutionary cloud hosting platform for an Internet site created someplace else, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domain addresses, and much more.
